When Smart Makes You Dumb

Can a smart thing make you dumb?

We all have sudden ideas while jogging, taking a shower, watching the clouds, or even while driving. Our minds receive tons of information every day and store them somewhere and recycle them. You may not remember how you have a certain information, where or when your mind perceived it. But you act based on the stock of data stored anyway. And even innovative ideas are generated accordingly.

Old people are the precious diamonds because they have the accumulated knowledge stored over the years, a thing which enables them not only to judge wisely but also to foresee to avoid the silly holes that naïve people fall into . And that’s what we call “experience”. They naturally - at least this is how it feels- know the pros and cons of a situation, are able to evaluate an event or a person. Add to that, their feelings and guts are to be trusted as the probability to be true is so high. All this is based on years of accumulated knowledge received from the outside world and stored and processed automatically inside the brain. And I'm here highlighting knowledge acquired from the outside world for a reason.

Smart Phones - The Funny and the Sad
Funny and Sad Truth

When you keep looking inside your smartphone while having a meal with your family, when you’re talking a walk, while having a conversation with your friends - if you still have physical friends - even when you’re driving, all this is blocking your mind from receiving new information. You are preventing the flow of natural information gathering. You are putting an oxygen mask instead of breathing naturally. Our current generation thinks that they can know faster online or using smartphones - and yes, we cannot go without smartphones, I admit that painful truth - but your lungs still need natural airflow.
I'm looking forward to see your comments as a discussion on the topic.

I tend to think that smart phones can make people dumber based on a basic look back at the history before and after smartphones, and make a comparison on the number of scientists, inventions, how healthy minds and souls people had.

Technology is not a dreadful thing and if not for it, I would not be reaching you through this article at least. But too much of a thing is a bad thing. Plus, excessive use of technology would block many opportunities to gain experience and communicate in a healthy way. Develop an awareness specially when it comes to using a dangerous device that can be closer to you than your own blood.
